Vonitsa is a beautiful Venetian port on the Gulf of Amvrakikos or Amvrakia, with a new quay overlooked by an impressive Byzantine castle. Ashore you will find everything you need including banks, supermarkets, beaches and a good selection of tavernas and cafes. The town itself has its own unique style and ambiance which sets it apart from many ports in the Ionian than the rest of the Ionian and is enclosed by lush, green foliage. At night you can see the small church out on the Koukouvitsa spit as it is beautifully illuminated.
Apparently, Vonitsa is one of the few places in Greece that you may get a glimpse of the endangered bottlenosed dolphin – so get your binoculars at the ready! This might be because of the high levels of fish, especially sardines in these waters where fishing is limited.
