RYA Day Skipper
Island Sailing is a British fully accredited Royal Yachting Association Training Centre offering a comprehensive range of practical RYA sailing courses from our base on Lefkas, Greece as well as online RYA theory courses.
Take a sailing course in Greece and enjoy the Greek islands in the sun with a full range of courses to choose from for complete beginners through to experienced sailors. You can also combine a sailing course with a flotilla holiday, a bareboat charter or sail and shore based holiday.
The Day Skipper qualification is in two parts, theory and practical. The theory course is usually taken first and teaches you the navigation skills required to skipper a yacht. We offer the on-line RYA Day Skipper course which includes support from our Chief Sailing Instructor if required.

By taking the theory course you learn the theory of navigation (including use of GPS and electronic charts), meteorology, collision regulations and safety needed to skipper a yacht. Courses can be taken online or in the classroom over different time periods to suit you.
You can take the RYA Day Skipper practical course in Greece with Island Sailing. Sail around the beautiful Ionian islands in the sunshine from our base at Lefkas marina. We run the Day Skipper practical course over 6 days in the non-tidal warm Mediterranean waters. During the week you will sail around the Ionian islands with plenty of time to explore coves, beaches and secluded bays and discover pretty villages and breathtaking scenery. Our specially chosen itineraries ensure you visit the best bays, the most beautiful villages and the nicest tavernas sailing to a different Greek Ionian island destination each day.
The practical course covers preparation for sea, safety, navigation, rules of the road, maintenance, pilotage, yacht handling, passage making and all that might be considered good seamanship. If you take the RYA Day Skipper practical course in the UK before you to sailing in Greece its usually a five day course carried out over two weekends or five consecutive days.
On completion of the theory and practical RYA Day Skipper course you will have the right qualification to charter and skipper a yacht in Greece either bareboat or on flotilla.
