Island Sailing is one of the fastest growing British yacht charter companies and RYA Training Centres operating in Greece. With a love of sailing and a passion for the Greek islands we offer the best selection of modern cruising yachts in the Ionian islands, the ArgoSaronic Gulf and the Cyclades islands from 31 – 55 feet. Island Sailing is also a British fully accredited RYA Training Centre based at Lefkas marina.  We offer some of the best flotilla routes in the Mediterranean on fantastic, highly specified and impeccably maintained yachts for a great mix of clients. 

Our season starts in May and ends in October. Whilst some of the opportunities we have are for the full season we also have opportunities for those available only during high season which may be more suited to those in higher education. About the Role

Our Lead Flotilla Crews consist of experienced sailors, talented engineers and organised hosts working as a team to offer the highest level of customer service to all our guests and ensuring a safe and enjoyable sailing environment at all times.

In this fulfilling and diverse role you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance, service checks and running repairs to the yachts and your lead boat. You will also help to lead a group of yachts around the Ionian islands sailing area and assist the skipper to ensure all the yachts are moored safely at the end of each day. You will also be responsible for the safety of all clients including safety briefings and assist clients with any queries they may have. You will also assist with the general running of flotilla including assisting with the organisation of group meals, BBQ's and socialising with guests.

You will be handle maintenance, repairs and service checks for yachts and outboards for tenders as well as yacht preparation and deck cleaning on turnaround days to ensure the yachts are ready for our new guests. You will brief the clients on the yachts’ mechanical systems and safety equipment. You will assist with emergency call outs and offer support at our marina base when not on flotilla.

Working as part of an enthusiastic team you will be friendly and approachable, be an effective communicator and be a confident to assist customers. You will be practically minded and have the ability to solve problems and have a flexible and responsible attitude.

You must have some previous experience of sailing or boating and be able to live aboard a yacht for the season. You will have previous experience of mechanical or electrical engineering, ideally within yacht maintenance and marine systems, including diesel engines, outboard engines, electrics, electronics and plumbing or in the automotive sector, ideally with an NVQ level 3 Motor Vehicle qualification or equivalent. You will have a minimum of RYA Competent Crew and some First Aid training and ideally a VHF licence. This position is for the duration of the season.

Essential:

  • Marine maintenance and engineering or automotive background
  • RYA Competent Crew or higher
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • VHF radio licence (or willingness to have gained one prior to joining)
  • Ability to work as a reliable and flexible member of the team
  • Be highly motivated
  • Competent swimmer
  • Be able to work independently
  • Good communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Fluent English
